AFTER EIGHT HOUR HATEFEST STUDENT SENATE VOTES DOWN DIVESTMENT RESOLUTION SEATTLE TALK SHOW HOST RUSHES TO HEARING – CALLS OUT ANTI-SEMITES

The UCLA Student Senate hosted an open hearing yesterday, offering students and alumni the opportunity to air their views on a divestment from Israel resolution sponsored by Students for Justice in Palestine. The tone of the evening was set with opening remarks made by UCLA professor Dr. Berky Nelson, who falsely asserted that pre-Israel Jewish/Arab relations were harmonious.

In a seemingly endless stream of one minute long bursts of calumnies, UCLA students expressed their unfiltered hatred for the Jewish state (all that was missing was the pitchforks). Lie, tumbled upon lie as young Bruins angrily asserted that Israel “permanently sterilized” Ethiopian women, engaged in female genital mutilation, randomly pulled Palestinians off of buses and shot them in the face, forced pregnant women to birth children at checkpoints, engaged in “daily” bouts of ethnic cleansing, bulldozing of homes, genocide and war crimes (and all before lunch).

For those who cannot fathom the historic Jew-hatred that has morphed all too often into violence, one need only watch any random 30 minutes of this verbal pogrom.

Pro-Israel Bruins were outnumbered and  some were ill-prepared to combat the canards leveled against  the Jewish state.  That having been said, many pro-Israel students did present effective counter-arguments  although too few questioned the fraudulent premises or the obscene nature of the entire exercise.  All pro-Israel students who braved the withering onslaught should be commended.

Ben Shapiro, a UCLA alum, writer and radio talk show host was listening to the live feed from his Los Angeles home. He was so incensed by what he was hearing  that he drove to the UCLA campus and offered a powerful reality-check to the assembled mob. By so doing Shapiro demonstrated in a mere two minutes  how Israel advocacy should be done.

Shapiro said…

My name is Ben Shapiro. I’m an alumnus of this university. I’m also a local talk show host on  870 in

Ben Shapiro: "To pretend this is about occupation, to pretend this is about peace, to pretend that this anything other than vile, spiteful Jew hatred is a lie! "

the morning (770 AM in Seattle 3-6pm), and I got out of bed and left my one month old baby there when I saw what was going on here tonight. I’ve never been more ashamed to be a Bruin. I’ve never been more ashamed to be an alumnus of this university than to see this divestment petition being considered at this level.

To pretend this is about occupation, to pretend this is about peace, to pretend that this anything other than vile, spiteful Jew hatred is a lie!

There is only one reason we are discussing Israel and not discussing Saudi Arabia. There is only one reason we are discussing Israel and not discussing Iran. There is only one reason we are discussing Israel and not discussing Palestine. There is only one reason we are discussing Israel and not discussing the vast bevy of human rights violations that happen every day in the Middle East, exponentially worse than what happens in Israel.

Any gay or lesbian that is targeting Israel in this room seems to have forgotten how high they hang gays from cranes in Iran. Every person of liberal bent who suggests that Israel is the problem in the Middle East seems to have forgotten that there is only one country in the Middle East that actually has any sort of religious diversity in it. The countries that are apartheid countries are those that are Judenrein — like, for example, Palestine.

So, for us to sit here and pretend that Israel is somehow on a lower moral plane is a direct manifestation of anti-Semitism. And to hold Jews to a different moral standard than any other country or group on the face of the earth represents nothing but an age-old and historic hatred for the Jewish people. All the folks here who are pretending that the B.D.S is about anything other than that, I would like to see a poll of those folks, and see how many of them actually believe in the existence of a Jewish state, qua-Jewish state, not as a state like any other, but as a Jewish state. They don’t. They don’t acknowledge that existence. They don’t believe in that existence. They don’t believe in peace. All this is about, pure and simple, is a desire to target the Jewish people.

Shapiro later observed that most pro-Israel students at the divestment hearing  ineffectively responded by protesting the false accusations against the Jewish state. He said that the notion of Israel advocates being put on the defensive, considering the  human rights record of Israel’s neighbors, is obscene. “The only way to win the battle is to say no! To point out that singling out Israel is an act of Jew hatred”.

After the marathon hearing the Student senate correctly voted down the resolution.  Kudos must go out to Bruins for Israel whose tireless efforts undoubtedly played a role in the defeat of this ignominious resolution. This outcome, while undoubtedly dissapointing to the organizers will not deter them from presenting a similar resolution at the next available opportunity. This is reportedly the fourth time such a resolution has been brought before the UCLA student senate, each time offering a  showcase for the anti-Israel agenda.

From The Daily Bruin:

The undergraduate student government voted down a resolution early Wednesday morning calling for UCLA and the University of California to divest from companies that profit from the Israeli occupation of Gaza and the West Bank.

The Undergraduate Students Association Council voted against the resolution with a 5-7-0 vote in a secret ballot. USAC moved to make the ballot secret after council members raised concerns that their safety would be threatened by individuals who disagreed with their votes.

The Mike Report suggests that rather than waiting for round two (or six, or whatever it is), pro-Israel students put forth a preemptive resolution demanding divestment from all corporations that do business with the top ten worst human rights violating nations.
