Horrific mob attack on Jewish children at Temple Mount
Har Habayit, the Temple Mount is the holiest place in Judaism, the once and future site of the Beit Hamikdash (the Holy Temple) has been the focal point of Jewish prayer and longing for over two millennia. While ostensibly under Israeli sovereignty, prayer is permitted only to Muslims. Jewish prayer books and ritual objects are routinely confiscated by authorities before allowing Jewish visitors to enter the Temple Mount. That is when Jews are allowed to visit at all; visiting times are severely limited and all Jewish visitors are escorted by a member of the Waqf, the Islamic religious authority for the duration of their visit.
Despite the stringent limitations, a small but growing number of Jews struggle to make pilgrimage to the site, especially around the period of the Jewish festivals.
The Algemeiner reports that this past week…
Some 25 Haredi (ultra-orthodox) children led by their fathers, ascended the Temple Mount. Immediately upon entering the Temple Mount they were physically attacked by a charging mob of hundreds of Muslim men and women.
I just watched a video of the melee and it is horrifyingly reminiscent of Arab pogroms of the 1920’s and 1930’s when hundreds of Jews were murdered by Arab mobs.
“The Muslims threw sticks and shoes at the elementary school aged boys and girls, as the Jewish group proceeded along the halachically prescribed path for visiting the Mount. The young children displayed incredible courage and presence of mind throughout the ordeal, as Muslims rushed them, spat on them, cursed them and even pulled on one boy’s peyot (sidelocks).”
The hatred is palpable, there is no question that if not for the few (excessively reserved) police officers on the scene there would have been a lynching that day. Watch the video below – it is shocking.
