Seattle Federation President speaks out on our tragedy

Keith Dvorchik, President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle posted a  heartfelt and powerful blog post in the wake of the Funerals for Gilad Shaar, Eyal Yifrach and Naftali Fraenkel.  Below are a couple of excerpts but I urge you to read the whole thing.

“I have been filled with mixed emotions all day. I go back and forth between abject sadness for the three Israeli teens kidnapped and murdered by terrorists on their way home from school, to sheer anger and rage over a society that would allow, encourage and reward such heinous actions.”

“There are some things that must never be tolerated. Kidnapping and murdering children is one of them.”

” As I sit with a broken heart for the lost lives of Naftali Frenkel and Gilad Shaar, both 16, and Eyal Yifrach, 19, it breaks even more for their parents and their families. These are our boys, they are our children, and we must not forget they were stolen from us by an act of barbarism.”

“We owe it to Naftali, Gilad and Eyal to do all that we can to make sure they are the last children to fall victim to terrorists.”

Mr. Dvorchik speaks about his relationship with the Mandel family whose own son Koby was murdered by Palestinian terrorists in 2001. He goes on to praise Senators Ben Cardin and Susan Collins for a  a letter they sent to President Obama urging the administration to take action against Hamas and the newly formed Palestinian unity government and to cease any alliances with Hamas.

We thank Mr. Dvorchik for his clear response to this atrocity and for his willingness to share his very personal feelings in the wake of our communal trauma.
