Is JTNews making money off the war?
The solicitation from Seattle’s JTNews landed with a thud in the email boxes of Israel supporters and pro-Israel organizations today.
I wanted to let you know that we are planning a special section in this upcoming issue, August 8. Our thought is to show all our readers and the community in general that we stand with Israel. As such we have created special rates and sizes. Deadline will be August 1.
The promotion sent by JTNews’ advertising sales manager Lynn Feldhammer urged prospective clients to purchase ads at “special rates and sizes” to show that “we stand with Israel”.
This sudden burst of patriotic enthusiasm for Israel came as a bit of a surprise to The Mike Report considering JTNews’ history of featuring people and positions hostile to the Jewish state. The paper has splashed anti-Israel activist Craig Corrie on the cover of the paper while publicizing his boycott Israel propaganda on the inside pages. It has provided the rabidly anti-Israel and unabashedly pro BDS Jewish Voice for Peace with free op-ed space to promote their views. Publisher Joel Magalnick has justified publishing a letter from Linda Frank, a non-Jewish woman who has met with Hamas officials and accuses Israel of targeting Palestinian children. The paper offered a front page feature article arguing that fighting against BDS may not be worth the effort.
In light of what many consider to be an expressed ambivalence or at least inconsistent support for the Jewish state, the sales pitch from the Jewish Federation owned newspaper was seen by some as a cynical exploitation of Israel’s life and death struggle.
IDF soldiers are dying and they want to make money off of this?
“Children are being traumatized, rockets are being fired at Israel night and day, IDF soldiers are dying and they want to make money off of this?” said Naomi Solam, a third generation Seattle resident and teacher at a local Jewish day school. Added Solam “they should at the very least donate all the money they earn on this for aid to Israel instead of putting it in their own pockets“.
Interested parties can show their support for Israel in a full-page ad by writing a check made out to the JTNews in the amount of $895.00, a 1/2 page of support for Israel can be purchased by sending the JTNews $495.00. Alternately you can donate the same amount to Magen David Adom, the emergency medical response service has so far treated 582 casualties in the Hamas war against Israel.
Your MDA gift will truly make a difference for our brothers and sisters in Israel, going directly to the purchase of vital emergency medical supplies. You can donate any amount to MDA by clicking here, a matching grant will double your gift until July 31.
