Temple De Hirsch Hosts BDS Rabbi
Less than a week after Seattle’s Temple De Hirsch Sinai was vandalized with anti-Semitic graffiti, the Seattle congregation is hosting Rabbi David Basior, a man who vigorously embraces and promotes the Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) movement. Three years ago this month this same synagogue hosted a unity rally condemning BDS.
Rabbi Basior will be speaking on Race & Religion at TDHS this Tuesday, March 14th. He has been a vocal apologist for the Black Lives Matter movement in the wake of it’s libelous declaration that Israel is committing “genocide” against Palestinians.
Last week the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle excised from their community calendar a Purim event organized by Basior’s Kadima congregation after discovering it was a fund raiser for a BDS affiliated group. Jewish leaders from Alan Dershowtz, to Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks to former Federation CEO Keith Dvorchik have declared BDS to be anti-Semitic. The beneficiaries of Rabbi Basior’s fund raiser, Youth Against Settlements, have been condemned for publishing grotesque anti-Semitic memes on their public Facebook page.
Rabbi Basior has most recently been embroiled in controversy surrounding a May junket he is organizing to Hebron together with five other Seattleites for the stated purpose of engaging in “direct action” against the Israel Defense Forces.
The irony is not lost that in the same week that our community stood in solidarity in the wake of a vile anti-Jewish attack, TDHS is hosting a man who embraces a movement that works to harm the Jewish state.
